Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
