The governing board of the iconic performing arts venue has decided to change its name the Trump-Kennedy Center, as confirmed by the White House.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated on social media that the board's approval was consensus, citing "the extraordinary job President Trump has done over the last year in preserving the building."
"This is destined to be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt attain new levels of grandeur and success," Leavitt noted.
The proposed move is expected to be deeply divisive, particularly in Washington, D.C., where the center has stood as an beloved institution since its completion and original naming for President John F. Kennedy.
Background of the Venue
Shortly after beginning his term, President Donald Trump replaced all the center's incumbent trustees and named supporters in their stead. The reconstituted board then voted to appoint Trump as chairman.
The president helped procure approximately $257 million in federal funds to pay for significant upgrades and associated costs at the aging venue.

The vision for a national performing arts center originated in the 1950s. Following the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy, the 35th president, in 1963, the future venue was dedicated to his memory.
