Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found plenty of entertaining indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a hero that is truly a turd striving to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. In numerous levels, you'll face boss fights and visit a shop to buy outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps carefully, as a mistake requires restarting the level. Bounce using bubbles to propel the poop to new heights, navigate disappearing ledges, and activate triggers to unlock secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher game content in which things gets crazy.

Visually, the demo features eye-catching stages and catchy soundtrack. The retro graphics with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name other games where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment have long featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. And of course, such content is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive recognition, like being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers in the fall.
