Coach Amorim Pledges He Won't Resign at Manchester United but Accepts Dismissal Looms Should Performances Don't Improve

The Manchester United manager has stated emphatically that he not resign from his position despite the club's ongoing struggles, but he admits that he faces the sack should performances do not improve.

Present Struggles and League Position

The head coach has managed only 34 points in his 33 Premier League matches, with the club now placed in 14th place in the table after finishing 15th result last season. The Red Devils have secured only two wins from their opening seven fixtures of the season, which includes a shock League Cup exit at Grimsby Town and last weekend's loss to Brentford FC. This result extended the manager's quest for his first consecutive league wins after arriving nearly a year ago.

Up next, Sunderland travel to the Theatre of Dreams, where a further loss would increase the pressure on Amorim.

Amorim's Stance on Stepping Down

When asked on whether he consider resigning, he stated: “Absolutely not, that's a decision of the board. I won't do that. Sometimes I have those thoughts and losing hurts, failing to build positive momentum. It’s deeply disappointing after building the momentum, go to the following match, something happens. That feeling sometimes affects me a lot. It impacts the squad and above all the coaching team here. Yet that is not my choice and I think it would be extremely difficult to leave unless I haven't given everything to follow my path at United.”

“It is an honor to be here and I want to continue here and I'm determined to fight for this. However the issue now that causes me suffer is to lose games, not the fear of losing my position. You fear losing your role when you have to pay expenses but I don't have that feeling.”

Explaining His 3-4-3 Tactics

Amorim also offered a spirited defense of his 3-4-3 system, which has been the focus of much criticism. Amorim has deployed the formation in every game yet it has so far failed to deliver the consistency craved.

“Nobody at the club is foolish,” Amorim said. “We understand that we must win to advance our plans. We'll reach a point that is impossible for everyone because United is a massive club with many sponsors, with two owners. It's challenging, managing expectations is very difficult. My aim is for the side – in victory or losing – performing the same way and we are failing to do that.”

Amorim pointed out that the team had played various formations with past coaches, yet to no avail. “We need perform the same way, with equal intensity, with matching energy, with the required concentration. Should we achieve that, the system won't matter what the system is.”

Plans Regarding Mid-Season Exhibition Matches

He confirmed intentions to arrange lucrative mid-season friendlies to help increase funds missed by not qualifying for European competition. “We have to organize these and we knew it after missing out on European football,” he said. “We have the supporters and our budget and we want to be with supporters globally.”

Tribute for Manchester Incident

United will observe a moment of silence this weekend and the players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect following the terrorist attack at a Manchester synagogue earlier this week. Manchester City will also pay respects for their Premier League and Women’s Super League fixtures over the coming days.
