Around 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, bringing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Extensive Damage

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that different parts across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units deployed to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received 598 emergency reports across the region, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

During the peak on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after past events where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
